GIVING TUESDAY - OUR CAMPAIGN - 75 years of Seafair!

What is Giving Tuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a global day dedicated to giving back. Each year, on the Tuesday immediately following Thanksgiving, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

Seafair Charitable Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization who mission is to create memorable events that provide free and affordable entertainment to the Puget Sound Region. Seafair believes in celebrating the traditions of our region, resources, cultures, and diverse residents.  Our community events celebrate our heritage and communities and enhance the quality of life for our citizens.

This will be Seafair’s 75th year bringing our communities together. Since 1950, nothing has been more synonymous with summer in Seattle than Seafair. Before the Seahawks and Mariners called Seattle home, before the 1962 World’s Fair that gave us the iconic Space Needle, Seattle had the Seafair Festival. Today, the non-profit Seafair has grown into a multi-week festival with events across the Puget Sound touching more than two million people. Times may have changed since its inception, but the core mission of Seafair remains – a catalyst for creating events and experiences that celebrate the best parts of living in the Pacific Northwest.

The Impact

The impact of Seafair extends further than just bringing community together. From the performances of high school marching bands or drill teams in the Torchlight Parade to a youth radio station that partnered with Seafair to create the acclaimed Log Boom Radio, Seafair offers many other influential opportunities, especially for the youth.

“The public performance opportunities provided by All-City Band and by extension Seafair, have given thousands of youths something positive to belong to and a chance to put their learning on full display while taking great pride in the sense of excitement and entertainment they are able to provide throughout their communities. Without Seafair, there would be no All-City Band. We are the longest running continuous entrant in the Torchlight parade and almost all of our regular public performances are Seafair sponsored events.” – Director, Marcus Pimpleton – Seattle All City Band

Another example of youth involvement is the Mercer Island High School student radio station. The students have developed programming and broadcasted live during the Seafair festival weekend. This talented group of high school students are the official radio station of Seafair!

Joe Bryant, KMIH broadcast media instructor, said of the station’s partnership with Seafair, “The hands-on experience our students get broadcasting a live event of this magnitude is so valuable.”
